Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA), a Toronto native, was present at Kentucky basketball’s beatdown of Team Canada at the 2023 GLOBL JAM in Toronto.

There was a bit of a conflict of interest for SGA, who is turning into one of the NBA’s brightest young stars. The former Kentucky standout was rooting for Team Canada despite the Wildcats representing Team USA.

How can you blame him?

At the game, SGA was asked what his lone season in college basketball at Kentucky did for his career. His answer? More than you might think.

“It changed the course of my career,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “You have to fight for everything you want to get, especially with so much talent around you and you learn that from day one. It’s so competitive in that gym and you really get better every day and I found myself getting better every day in that gym and I got to my ultimate goal.”

SGA is currently averaging 31.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He’s set to enter his 6th season in the NBA this upcoming year.
