Zach Calzada is coming back to the SEC. The former Auburn and Texas A&M quarterback is transferring from Incarnate Word to Kentucky.

Calzada announced his commitment in a social media post that included the following note.

It’s hard to put into words how much UIW Football has meant to me,” Calzada wrote. “This program didn’t just bring back my love for the game; it reignited my passion. The people here – my teammates, coaches, and the staff – supported me when I needed it most. Earning my MBA was an incredible bonus, and I truly believe I was exactly where God wanted me to be.

“After many discussions with my family and the coaching staff, I’ve decided to utilize my medical redshirt and play one final year of college football. Words cannot fully express my gratitude to Coach Killough, Coach McQueen, and everyone at UIW who has been a part of my journey. You all are family, and I’ll always carry that with me.

“Thank you for all the love and encouragement as I take this next step. I’m excited to announce that I’ll be playing my final year of eligibility at the UNIVERSITY OF Kentucky! #BBN

Calzada began his college football career at Texas A&M in 2019. He made 3 appearances his first season with the Aggies. Calzada did not play for A&M in 2020, but made 12 appearances in 2021, including 10 starts. Calzada was 184-of-328 passing (56.3% complete) for 2,185 yards, 17 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in 2021.

Calzada transferred to Auburn in 2022, but did not record any playing time. He transferred to Incarnate Word to continue his college football career.

This past season, Calzada posted the best numbers of his career. Guiding UIW to an 11-3 season, Calzada was 343-of-524 passing (65.5% complete) for 3,744 yards and 35 touchdowns, both career highs.
