The scheduled congressional baseball game will go on as planned Thursday despite the efforts of a madman to disrupt the event in Virginia.
If you somehow missed the story, 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson opened fire Wednesday on members of the Republican congressional baseball team while they practiced for Thursday’s game. Hodgkinson, acting as a lone gunman in the incident, shot several victims including majority whip of the House of Representatives Steve Scalise. Hodgkinson was killed by Scalise’s security forces, however, two of them were shot themselves in the incident.
According to The Advocate, following the incident, LSU decided to send school shirts and hats to the capital for lawmakers to wear for the Thursday game. Scalise is an LSU graduate, having earned his degree in 1989.
“We are grateful to Congress for thinking of Rep. Steve Scalise during this difficult time and recognizing him by wearing LSU gear in support of his recovery,” LSU President F. King Alexander said in a statement. “Rep. Scalise is a proud LSU alumnus and great supporter of the university, and we are proud to help out even in this small way. The thoughts and prayers of the entire LSU community are with Rep. Scalise, his family and all of those injured.”
