Cortez Hankton, who recently left Georgia to join Brian Kelly’s staff as the passing game coordinator at LSU, has received some NFL interest.

The Los Angeles Rams requested to interview Hankton for their vacant offensive coordinator job, sources told Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. “Sean McVay searching far and wide. Hankton now has the same job Joe Brady did at LSU, and before that, he led UGA to first in the SEC in yards per pass attempt.”

The position is open because Kevin O’Connell left to be the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.

Hankton, a former NFL wide receiver, was named pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Georgia ahead of the 2019 season after he served the 2018 season as wide receivers coach. Hankton is a New Orleans, Louisiana native, and previously coached at Dartmouth and Vanderbilt. He was named All-SWAC twice as a Texas Southern wide receiver and played professionally in the NFL (2003-08) and UFL (2009-11).

Hankton joined Derek Mason’s Vanderbilt staff in 2015 as the Commodores wide receivers coach. He remained at Vandy through 2017, before Kirby Smart hired him to be Georgia’s wide receivers coach ahead of the 2018 season.

Hankton, 41, played 46 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003-2006, as he joined the league as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Southern. He caught 34 passes for 310 yards and 2 touchdowns in his career. But Pro Football Talk also noted that Hankton also crossed paths with Rams head coach Sean McVay. He was on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster in 2008, though he was injured. That was the year McVay joined Jon Gruden’s staff as an offensive assistant.
