Ed Orgeron says LSU won’t stop cut blocking, despite penalties
By Adam Spencer
Published:
LSU has had a couple of illegal block penalties that have stalled drives the past two weeks, with chop blocks being the main offender.
However, coach Ed Orgeron said during his radio show on Wednesday that cut blocks are legal and are a big part of the Tigers’ offense.
As you can see in the tweet below, he said the team needs to continue working on its cutting technique, but that we can expect more cut blocks in the coming weeks:
Orgeron asked about the chop block penalties halting #LSU drives.
He says “It’s a big part of what we do" cut blocking on outside zone plays, and they'll continue to do it. Need to work on the technique, though.

Defenders don’t like chop blocks because offensive linemen are going for their legs and knees while they’re engaged with another blocker, but for now, cut blocks (which is going low when a defender is not engaged with another blocker) is legal.
Now, it’s just up to Coach O and the Tigers to make sure they do it in such a way that doesn’t get flagged.
