Jardin Gilbert is staying in the SEC, and returning home in one fell swoop.

The safety from Baton Rouge, Louisiana shared on Instagram that he would commit to LSU: “Time to do what should’ve been done.”

Gilbert suffered a shoulder injury this past season at Texas A&M, but produced a strong season in 2022, totaling 61 tackles and 2 interceptions. His 61 tackles were tied for 4th on the team with Edgerrin Cooper. The shoulder injury this past season required surgery, and he was out for the rest of the season in September.

Gilbert coming out of high school was a 4-star recruit in the Class of 2021, ranked as the No. 16 safety in the country and the No. 9 player in the state. He was recruited in part by Mike Elko, but the former defensive coordinator’s return to College Station didn’t keep Gilbert in the fold.

Since he preserved a redshirt year, Gilbert still has 2 seasons of eligibility remaining.
