LSU basketball player Wayde Sims shot and killed near Southern University

The LSU family is in mourning this Friday morning, as it was reported that junior F Wayde Sims had been shot and killed.

Sims was reportedly near Southern University when the shooting took place.

According to Fox8Live.com, Sims was taken to a nearby hospital, but died shortly thereafter:

Police said Sims, a junior attending LSU with a forward position on the team, was transported to a local hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. Police said Sims died due to the injury.

Shortly after learning of Sims’s tragic death, coach Will Wade issued a statement via email:

“We are all devastated. We need your prayers for Wayde, for his family, for all of us. We are heartbroken.”

Sims appeared in 32 games last season, making 10 starts. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

Sims was 20 years old.
