LSU was not expected to win this race, but the Tigers’ hat was the one picked up from the table on Saturday when Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman wideout Derek Meadows made his college commitment.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound blue-chipper has given his verbal commitment to LSU, announcing his decision on the 247Sports’ YouTube page. Meadows was also considering Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, and Michigan. The Fighting Irish had been trending in his recruitment and were viewed as the favorite to land Meadows, but he told 247Sports that LSU felt most like home.

“They have a bunch of leaders there and I just know they’ll push me every day to get where I want to be,” he said.

It’s hard to argue with WRU at the end of the day, and Meadows certainly looks like another who could add to that lineage in the Bayou. He’s viewed as a 5-star prospect by some recruiting services, but he’s a high 4-star in the industry-generated 247 Composite.

He ranks as the No. 1 recruit from the state of Nevada and the No. 10 wide receiver in the Class of 2025. In the national player rankings, he sits at No. 68 overall. The talent evaluators at 247Sports have him listed as a top-35 prospect and a top-6 receiver. He’s also a 5-star at On3. A national ranking of No. 188 overall in the ESPN 300 skews the Composite grade.

Nevertheless, he’s an elite prospect no matter how you slice it. Meadows was awarded the Nevada 2023 Gatorade Track and Field Player of the Year award after taking first in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the 110-meter hurdles as a sophomore at the Nevada 5A state championship. He was also part of a 4×400 team that took him gold.

As a sophomore last fall, Meadows made 15 catches for 391 yards and 8 touchdowns on a Bishop Gorman team that won a state title. He has blown up on the camp circuit with strong 7-on-7 showings. Because of his frame, Meadows has some positional versatility. As he matures, he might be able to play wideout or tight end as a mismatch hunter.

For now, he’s the second wide receiver to join 5-star quarterback Bryce Underwood in the LSU class. The 2025 group has 18 known commitments now, and it ranks inside the top 5 nationally. Meadows is the sixth recruit to join LSU’s class this month, and he’s the second top-100 player to pledge to the Tigers in the last week.
