LSU will get a big piece of its recruiting class thanks to an 11th hour approval from the NCAA.
LB Donte Starks is a 6-foot-1, 225-pound product of Marrero, Louisiana who was rated as a 4-star prospect and the No. 10 inside linebacker in the nation by 247Sports Composite Rankings. The 2019 Under Armour All-American picked LSU over scholarship offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida and Clemson, among others.
He tweeted late Friday afternoon that he was cleared by the NCAA.
Because he was not cleared academically until late this week, according to Starks, it’s unclear what his availability will be, if at all, for LSU’s opener against Georgia Southern. But without a steady diet of preseason practices, it’s doubtful that Starks will see much of the field on Saturday.
Coach Ed Orgeron recently said, according to the Advocate, “He’s very close, but he’s not eligible yet. Things are looking up that he may be eligible by the time school starts — hopefully. But it’s going to be down to the wire.”
The NCAA has cleared me💜💛.
