LSU RB Josh Williams isn’t sure Texas and Oklahoma are ready for life in the SEC.
Williams, a native of Houston, was asked Monday about the Longhorns and Sooners joining the conference. He offered a warning to the Red River rivals:
“I don’t think they know what they’re getting into,” Williams said, per On3. “The SEC is a beast, everybody knows. But I’m excited for them to actually get into the conference.
“You know being from Texas, and seeing all these guys from Texas either have to go to [Texas] A&M or leave the state to play in the SEC, it’s a big deal to really have another opportunity for guys to be playing in Texas, stay in the state and play for their state.”
Williams will have a decision to make about playing for the Tigers in 2024 when the SEC adds Texas and Oklahoma. Williams has been with the program since 2019, making him a 5th-year senior in 2023. The NCAA does not count 2020 against players’ 4 full seasons of eligibility, allowing Williams the option to return for a 6th year in 2024.
LSU’s 2024 schedule includes Oklahoma. A date has not yet been set. The Tigers and Sooners last met in 2019 in the Peach Bowl, a College Football Playoff semifinal matchup. Williams did not see any game time during 2019 as a walk-on member of the scout team.
