Notre Dame running back Deon McIntosh will not play in Monday’s Citrus Bowl against LSU.
McIntosh was reportedly sent home by Notre Dame over a violation of team rules.
While he didn’t start for Notre Dame, McIntosh was the Fighting Irish’s third-leading rusher this season with 358 yards and five touchdowns.
Starter Josh Adams, who was a Heisman candidate and a Maxwell Award finalist, is solid. He’ll be hard to handle.
But depth could be a real issue for the Irish when they take on the Tigers.
Besides the fresh news of McIntosh being sent home — which was first reported by WNDU — backup C.J. Holmes also is suspended for the bowl game.
“With CJ Holmes suspended indefinitely following a shoplifting arrest, Notre Dame will have just Josh Adams, Tony Jones and Dexter Williams available at running back on New Years Day,” the WNDU report noted.
Jones has had 43 carries for 232 rushing yards and three touchdowns this season, while Williams has had 37 carries for 324 yards and four TDs.
Orlando’s Citrus Bowl will kick off at 1 p.m. ET and will be televised on ABC.
