Report: LSU defensive backs coach will return despite down year in pass D
“DBU” is coming off a down season when it comes to pass defense, but that doesn’t mean the school won’t be extending its defensive backs coach.
According to 247Sports, LSU plans on extending Corey Raymond’s contract, keeping him at the position with his alma mater for a fifth season.
Although all the struggles can’t be attributed to the secondary, LSU was among the worst in several categories in pass coverage. The Tigers were 12th in the SEC in passing yards allowed per game (224.3), 12th in opponent passer rating (122.8), 13th in pass TDs allowed (22) and 12th in interceptions (10).
That’s a big dip from the team’s performance in 2014, when it led the SEC in virtually every category.
Raymond played defensive back for LSU from 1988-91, finishing with 8 career interceptions and one returned for a touchdown.
