WATCH: Russell Gage discusses what Coach O told him about hurdling defenders

On Saturday at The Swamp, LSU WR Russell Gage took an end around and turned it into one of the best highlights from the Tigers’ 17-16 win.
That’s because when Florida DB Duke Dawson tried to tackle him, Gage took to the air, hurdling the Gator defender and picking up a first down in the process.
The dynamic play, which helped set the tone for the game, can be seen in the CBS Sports video below:

On Tuesday, Gage said coach Ed Orgeron is supportive of his hurdling, though some teammates have tried to talk him out of the move, as you can see in the video by The Advocate‘s Mike Gegenheimer below:

“Coach O is for whatever works,” he said. “He understands that I’m only doing it to help the team — extra yards. I’ve had a couple players tell me, ‘Hey, it might not be a good idea to jump,’ but he’s for whatever helps the team.”
Hurdling or not, Gage is a dynamic player when he has the ball in his hands, so the Tigers should give it to the senior receiver more often.
