Greg McElroy broke down Saturday night’s ACC matchup between Miami and Cal on the latest episode of Always College Football.
This will be the first road ACC test of the year for the Hurricanes, who have steadily rose up the rankings all the way to No. 7 in the latest AP Top 25. Cal has had an up-and-down season, but does have an impressive road win over Auburn on its résumé already in 2024.
McElroy indicated he thinks Cal’s defense will have a chance to contain Miami’s high-flying offense, which is led by Heisman Trophy candidate Cam Ward. However, he also said he believes Ward will play better on Saturday than he did last week vs. Virginia Tech.
“Cal has played some decent competition, and their defense has been up to the task,” McElroy said. “Cam Ward is on another level … I really like this offense. Cam Ward, I thought got a little greedy last week, tried to force a couple plays and didn’t see the field as well as he normally does. I expect a bounce-back performance from him here.”
McElroy is picking Miami to win the game, but he likes the Golden Bears +10 to cover the spread.
“I’ll take Miami, but I’ll take the points,” McElroy said. “I think the points, it seems like a lot. Just saying. Seems like a lot.”
Miami is a 10-point favorite over Cal according to the latest lines at FanDuel.
