Infamous Miami booster claims SEC head coach would be top candidate for Hurricanes

Miami booster Nevin Shapiro has quite the checkered past.
The 52-year-old was handed a 20-year prison sentence for securities fraud and money laundering, and was the central figure in a wide-ranging, well-publicized scandal that affected the Hurricanes athletic department, especially the football team.
Shapiro is currently on house arrest, but it doesn’t mean that he’s not keeping an eye on the happenings around the college football world and hasn’t reached out to his connections to get a sense of how the coaching carousel might play out.
According to Shapiro, as told in a text message to Yahoo’s Dan Wolken, should the Hurricanes fire Manny Diaz after the 2021 season, their “top candidate” is Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.
What’s more, Shapiro’s source informed him that Randy Shannon, the longtime former Canes assistant and later head coach from 2007-2010, would return as defensive coordinator.
It seems like Kiffin can’t stay out of the head coaching rumor mill. Would a return to the Sunshine State be in the cards for him, though? That remains to be seen.
