Remember when Mizzou’s offense struggled throughout the spring and questions persisted as to how the Tigers would replace its four top receiving targets from last season?

The two-time defending champs are more prepared than everyone thought and appear to have depth at an important position to boot.

True freshman quarterback Drew Lock, a in-state four-star Elite 11 passer, received much of the buzz during Saturday’s fall scrimmage at Faurot Field after completing 14-of-19 throws for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

Lock was accurate in the short game and showed off a strong arm against primarily second-team defenders.

Mizzou’s initial plan was to redshirt Lock this season since the Tigers are stable at quarterback with Mauk, Eddie Printz and Marvin Zanders, but continued hot play in fall camp would create an intriguing dilemma for the coaching staff.

Maty Mauk seems to have a potential No. 1 wideout in Nate Brown, who had receptions spanning 26 and 27 yards in the early going. Mauk’s lone touchdown on the afternoon went to Wesley Leftwich on a well-placed deep ball.

Unofficially, Mauk complete 10-of-22 passes for 117 yards.

Some brief injury news to report: Freshman wideout Johnathon Johnson was carted off the field after an apparent leg injury. We’ll update you on his status when Gary Pinkel meets with the media.
