Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-sign backup QB Blaine Gabbert

Tampa Bay looks to have its same quarterback room for the 2022 season. The Buccaneers announced Wednesday that have they re-signed Blaine Gabbert.

Gabbert, a former Missouri quarterback, is back for his third season with the Bucs. He has been Tom Brady’s primary backup the past 2 seasons, appearing in 10 games, completing 16-of-27 passes for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Gabbert has been in the NFL since 2011 when he was selected with the No. 10 overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Over his career, Gabbert has played in 66 games, starting 48. He is 858-of-1525 passing for 9,273 yards, 50 touchdowns 47 interceptions. Gabbert’s appearances have been in the single digits every season since 2013.

With Gabbert back, the Bucs will have all 4 QBs from the 2021 season on the roster. The Bucs website notes that practice squad QB Ryan Griffin re-signed last week. Former Florida QB Kyle Trask is entering his second season with the club.
