Theo Wease Jr.’s Mizzou career has come to an unfortunate early end.

Wease was having a standout first half for Mizzou against Iowa in the Music City Bowl. He took a hard hit toward the end of the half, however, and Mizzou told reporters that he would not return for the 2nd half in Nashville. The hit was called for targeting, but overturned upon review.

Wease stepped into the WR1 role for the game as Mizzou is without star wideout Luther Burden III, who has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. He was the leading target for Brady Cook, snagging 5 receptions for 75 yards with 1 touchdowns on 10 targets, with 1 drop.

Wease scored Mizzou’s first touchdown of the game, an 8-yard reception in the 1st quarter to cap a 10-play, 85-yard drive to answer Iowa’s opening score.

A transfer from Oklahoma, Wease has been a starter for the Tigers for the past 2 seasons. He entered the bowl game coming off the most productive regular season of his career, recording 55 catches for 809 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wease cracked triple-digit receiving yards in wins over Buffalo (149) and Arkansas (100).

With Wease sidelined, Marquis Johnson has stepped to become Mizzou’s leading receiver in the bowl. Johnson has the longest reception of the game, a 44-yard catch.
