The 2023 MLB Draft will take place July 9-11 in Seattle, and when it kicks off, several SEC stars should come off the board early.

In fact, more than half a dozen SEC prospects could go in the first 20 picks. This week, MLB.com analyst Jonathan Mayo put together his latest Round 1 projections, and he had 7 SEC stars included in his picks.

As you can see below, LSU accounts for the first 2 picks, while a Florida Gator comes off the board at No. 3 overall:

  • No. 1 — Dylan Crews, OF, LSU — Pittsburgh Pirates
  • No. 2 — Paul Skenes, RHP, LSU — Washington Nationals
  • No. 3 — Wyatt Langford, OF, Florida — Detroit Tigers
  • No. 7 — Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee — Cincinnati Reds
  • No. 13 — Jacob Gonzalez, SS, Ole Miss — Chicago Cubs
  • No. 18 — Enrique Bradfield Jr., OF, Vanderbilt — Milwaukee Brewers
  • No. 19 — Hurston Waldrep, RHP, Florida — Tampa Bay Rays

Skenes boosted his draft stock in a shutout pitching performance against Kentucky in the Baton Rouge Super Regional on Saturday night.

Check out these highlights from his incredible effort:

Who will work their way into the Round 1 mix over the next month before the draft begins? We’ll see which players make even bigger names for themselves in Omaha to draw more MLB attention. It should be a fun next few weeks of baseball!
