The Texas Rangers are world champions. The Rangers won it all Wednesday night, defeating the Arizona Cardinals 5-0 in Phoenix to win the World Series 4-1.

Texas’ roster included 6 players who went to current SEC schools. Pitcher Max Scherzer played for Mizzou before the Tigers joined the conference.

Here are the Rangers with ties to SEC schools:

  • Dane Dunning (Florida)
  • Nathaniel Lowe (Mississippi State)
  • Jordan Montgomery (South Carolina)
  • Max Scherzer (Missouri)
  • Josh Smith (LSU)
  • Chris Stratton (Mississippi State)

For Texas, it is the team’s first World Series title. The Rangers went 90-72 in regular-season play, making the 2023 playoffs as a wild card.

Texas won its first 7 games of the postseason, including sweeps of the Tampa Bay Rays and Baltimore Orioles. The Rangers were up 2-0 on Houston before the Astros won 3 consecutive ALCS games. Texas rallied to win the final 2 games in Houston, taking the series in Game 7.
