The college baseball season is heating up as we hit the middle of April with teams jockeying for a chance to advance to the College World Series in Omaha later this summer. Conference action is ongoing across the country, including Sunday’s AAC rubber match between USF and Rice in Houston.
Unfortunately, that game was delayed a bit, though not for the traditional spring weather delay that can be common throughout the southeast. It was a delay related to Mother Nature, though, with a beehive taking up residence in the visitor’s dugout.
If that sounds a bit wild, it’s the honest truth with Rice Baseball confirming the delay on social media.
Tommy McClelland, the AD for Rice, shared images of the beehive being tended to and removed. The game fortunately was able to get underway after USF and Rice split the first 2 games of the weekend on Friday and Saturday.
Anyone interested in a couple (or plenty) of bee-related puns can check out Rice Baseball’s X (formerly Twitter) feed for all the coverage of Sunday’s game. The social media team for the Owls took the chance to get their money’s worth from the delay, and it’s worth checking out.
