College baseball rankings: Tennessee overtakes top spot in D1Baseball’s latest (March 17)

College baseball rankings are getting updated as we hit the week of March 17, and Tennessee has claimed another top spot in the country.
On Monday, D1Baseball unveiled its latest top 25 poll, and the Vols are at the top of the pack. The preseason No. 1 was Texas A&M with LSU moving up after the Aggies fell, but LSU’s run is done for the time being.
Tennessee’s ascension follows a clean 3-game sweep of top-10 foe Florida to open the SEC baseball schedule. The Vols outscored the Gators 22-7 in the series in running their season-opening winning streak to 20 games.
Fresh off his first national title and the first in program history, Tony Vitello has his group once again looking like the best team in the country. There is a long way to go in the SEC slate, but it’s an emphatic opening statement with an eye toward a return trip to the College World Series. LSU also opened SEC play with a sweep of Mizzou, though that level of difficulty pales in comparison to what Tennessee faced over the weekend. The Tigers checked in at No. 2 on the D1Baseball poll while Arkansas and Georgia gave the SEC a sweep of the top 4 spots.
Overall, the SEC landed 11 teams in the latest top 25 while Texas A&M fell out of the poll altogether after getting swept, at home, by Alabama.
