John Rhys Plumlee played for Ole Miss baseball (and football) in 2021. He has since transferred to UCF. The NCAA, however, won’t let Plumlee play baseball for the Knights in 2022.
Plumlee announced Wednesday that he has been denied an NCAA waiver to play in the 2022 college baseball season, which began last weekend. Some of Plumlee’s Twitter followers were confused as to why Plumlee is not immediately eligible under the one-time transfer rule. While Plumlee is with a new school for the new baseball season, the NCAA calendar considers the 2021 college football season and 2022 college baseball season as part of the 2021-22 athletic season. Under current NCAA rules, Plumlee would have had to transfer to UCF before July 1, 2021 to be eligible to play baseball for the Knights in 2022. Plumlee announced his transfer to UCF on Jan. 9.
I have just been informed that the NCAA has denied my wavier to be immediately eligible this year for baseball season. Although this breaks my heart, I know that God has a plan through it all. I am blessed to be here and know that there are big things coming #G10rytoGod pic.twitter.com/E52o4qLCij
