Saturday’s Super Regional matchup between LSU and Kentucky took a bit of an odd turn just before first pitch.
With mostly clear, sunny skies around Baton Rouge, the game was announced to be delayed until 8 p.m. ET Saturday night due to the threat of storms. Once again, the game will go into a 5-hour delay despite it not currently raining nor lightning at Alex Box stadium.

Delays have plagued Saturday’s slate of games to start the afternoon. South Carolina-Florida is currently in a delay, and Tennessee-Southern Miss is likely to be halted at some point despite starting on time.
In the midst of the bizarre situation, hundreds of fans have taken to social media to lament the strange decision.
Check out some of what the college baseball world has to say below:

This is ridiculous. LSU is just protecting their #1 pitcher and are afraid he’d start then couldn’t pitch after a delay. Why do they get to decide when the game starts/doesn’t start? Shouldn’t the umps or NCAA be the ones making that call?

When LSU comes to KPP next year, I hope when the Tigers throw their Ace that Kentucky will just randomly call for a weather delay in the 2nd inning and send everyone home. https://t.co/EhNuPqiW6K

Closest lightning is 77 miles away. This is dumb. The percentage just goes up rest of afternoon.

Game will be delayed until LSU risk no chance of starting a few innings and losing starter.

The only reason there is a delay is bc @LSUbaseball doesn’t want Skenes to get out there, pitch 2-3 innings & then have to pull him if there is a significant rain delay during the game. The weather there is ?fine right now to start. This is a pitcher delay, not weather!! #BBN https://t.co/BQemYFcdb8
