MLB.com’s latest mock draft for 2022 has 7 SEC players going in Round 1

The 2022 MLB Mock Draft will take place from July 17 to July 19 in Los Angeles. And, over the course of the event, dozens of SEC players should hear their names called.

But, how many will go in Round 1? In MLB.com analyst Jonathan Mayo’s latest mock draft, he has 7 SEC standouts going in the first round (including the compensation picks and competitive balance round).

As you can see below, LSU has a player in the top 10, with Tennessee leading the way with 3 first-round selections:

  • No. 6 — Jacob Berry, 3B/OF, LSU — Miami Marlins
  • No. 24 — Jordan Beck, OF, Tennessee — Boston Red Sox
  • No. 29 — Drew Gilbert, OF, Tennessee — Tampa Bay Rays
  • No. 32 — Sterlin Thompson, OF, Florida — Cincinnati Reds
  • No. 33 — Blake Tidwell, RHP, Tennessee — Baltimore Orioles
  • No. 34 — Logan Tanner, C, Mississippi State — Arizona Diamondbacks
  • No. 39 — Connor Prielipp, LHP, Alabama — San Diego Padres
