LSU and the SEC was well represented on Baseball America’s first-team All-America team.
The Tigers alone had 3 players named to the team, including third baseman Tommy White, outfielder Dylan Crews and righthander Paul Skenes.
Florida outfielder Wyatt Langford, and Gators DH Jac Caglianone were also named to the team.
White was known as one of the best power hitters in college baseball, as he hit .374/.432/.725 with 24 home runs and 105 RBIs. Crews, who is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the MLB Draft, was the first player to win SEC Player of the Year in back-to-back years. He hit .426/.567/.713 with 18 home runs, as he also led the SEC in both batting and OBP.
Similarly, Skenes was named the SEC Pitcher of the Year as he went 13-2, 1.69 with 209 strikeouts and 20 walks in 122.2 innings. He had more strikeouts in a season than any pitcher since Long Beach State’s Jered Weaver, who had 213 in 2004, and dominated hitters with a fastball that regularly exceeds 100 mph and a knee-buckling slider.
Langford hit .373/.498/.784 with 21 home runs, 56 walks and 44 strikeouts. He led the Gators in both batting and with a 1.282 OPS, and is another in the mix at the top of the draft.
Known for his two-way ability as a pitcher who went 7-4 with a 4.34 ERA in 18 starts with 87 strikeouts and 55 walks in 74.2 innings. He also hit .323/.389/.738 with 33 home runs, a new program record.
