SEC baseball is off to a roaring start to the season, and the conference is still dominating the latest top 25 from D1Baseball.
On Monday, the folks at D1Baseball dropped their latest rankings, and the SEC delivered a whopping 12 total teams in the rankings. It included 2 newcomers from the conference (Alabama and Auburn) as Mississippi State fell out of the poll after a 1-3 week.
Texas A&M, previously the No. 1 team in the country, also plummeted from the top spot in the nation. The Aggies were also 1-3 last week with losses to Cal Poly, Texas State, Arizona and Oklahoma State and fell 13 spots.
So, who replaces A&M at the top of the rankings? It came down to LSU and Tennessee, but the Tigers (11-1 overall) ascended to the top spot after a 5-0 week with wins over quality competition in Dallas Baptist, Nebraska and Kansas State.
The Vols are now No. 2 with an 11-0 start to the season while Arkansas (No. 3) and Georgia (No. 5) give the SEC 4 of the top 5 spots. North Carolina from the ACC broke up the top 5 with a No. 4 overall ranking.
There is still a long way to go in the baseball season with conference play still to come, but these squads will factor into the race to Omaha and the College World Series all season long.
