SEC baseball is dealing with ongoing inclement weather at the start of the conference tournament in Hoover, Alabama. Unfortunately, the phrases “there is some weather in the area” and “we’re not quite sure when we’re starting” have become a broken record.

The SEC released a statement Tuesday evening that said the Florida-South Carolina game would experience a significant delay, and therefore the Auburn-Kentucky game, which was supposed to be the nightcap of the single elimination format on Tuesday, would move to Wednesday.

As for the game that was played earlier Tuesday, Alabama knocked off Georgia, 5-3, after the teams combined for 28 strikeouts in a game marked by 2 delays, including one that stretched some 2 hours. The story of that game for Alabama was that Ben Hess, who entered the game after the second of two rain delays, held Georgia scoreless over 4 1/3 innings, and gave up just 1 hit and 1 walk while he struck out 10 of the 15 batters he faced.

Alabama was set to play Arkansas on Wednesday morning, but it appears that first pitch time will be moved.

Ole Miss and Vanderbilt are set to play later Tuesday, pending the completion of the Florida-South Carolina game. Texas A&M, LSU and Tennessee are awaiting the winners of these games.
