Texas had no trouble with Auburn on Saturday afternoon, as the top-ranked Longhorns rolled past the No. 8 Tigers 14-2 in 7 innings to finish off a sweep at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Kimble Schuessler had a day to remember at the plate, going 3-5 with a pair of home runs and 8 RBI. Rylan Galvan was 2-4 with a pair of RBI while Adrian Rodriguez and Casey Borba both went deep.
Ike Irish opened the scoring in the top of the 1st with a solo shot before the Longhorns struck for 5 runs in the bottom half. With runners on first and second in a 1-1 game, Schuessler hit a 3-run homer to make it 4-1, followed by an Adrian Rodriguez solo blast to stretch the lead to 5-1.
Schuessler later brought in a pair in the 2nd with a 2-run double, making it 7-1. Then, in the 5th, Rylan Galvan’s 2-run single stretched the lead to 9-1.
Auburn cut it to 9-2 on a wild pitch in the top of the 7th before Texas shut the door in the bottom half, as Borba’s 2-run shot to left with no one out and Schessler’s 3-run walk-off bomb with two out set the final tally.
Jason Flores picked up the win in relief, going 3.2 innings and giving up a run off 2 hits, fanning 3 and walking one. Andreas Alvarez took the loss for Auburn.
Texas, now 33-5 (16-2 SEC), visits Texas State on Tuesday before a highly-anticipated series against Texas A&M kicks off on Friday. Auburn drops to 27-13 (9-9) and hosts Georgia Tech on Tuesday.
