The Windup: Previewing SEC baseball Week 10 slate (April 17-20)

Published:
Welcome to the second half of SEC play! Every squad has played 15 conference contests, and has 15 more to go. With Easter Sunday coming up, we’re looking at mostly Thursday-Saturday weekend series in Week 10 of the 2025 college baseball season.
We’ve reached the time of year when everyone starts paying closer attention to NCAA Tournament projections. To make the field of 64 with an at-large bid, a team has to finish above .500 overall. Traditionally, it also takes about 13 conference wins. SEC teams that don’t meet those qualifications have their work cut out for them at the SEC Tournament in Hoover, where the champion will receive an automatic bid.
Ahead of all the action Thursday-Sunday, The Windup is here to provide a quick glance at where each squad stands entering this weekend’s conference series.
Alabama at LSU (Thursday-Saturday)
Alabama at a glance:
- Overall record: 30-8
- SEC record: 8-7
- Home record: 20-6
- Road record: 6-2
- Streak: W1
- Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Mississippi State
- RPI: 11
LSU at a glance:
- Overall record: 32-6
- SEC record: 10-5
- Home record: 23-1
- Road record: 5-5
- Streak: W1
- Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Auburn
- RPI: 9
Off the bat watchability rating: Off the wall
Alabama is no longer projected to be an NCAA Regional host by Baseball America after losing the series to Mississippi State in Week 9, but a solid showing against LSU would boost the Crimson Tide’s postseason stock. It’s a bounce-back weekend for both squads as the Tigers try to put the Auburn sweep behind them. The Bayou Bengals have been virtually unbeatable at Alex Box Stadium, but Bama has played well away from home.
Texas A&M at Arkansas (Thursday-Saturday)
Texas A&M at a glance:
- Overall record: 21-15
- SEC record: 6-9
- Home record: 17-9
- Road record: 3-4
- Streak: W7
- Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. South Carolina
- RPI: 51
Arkansas at a glance:
- Overall record: 33-5
- SEC record: 12-3
- Home record: 24-1
- Road record: 6-3
- Streak: W1
- Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Georgia
- RPI: 2
Off the bat watchability rating: Off the wall
Ok, Texas A&M, you’ve got everyone’s attention. The Aggies had one of the roughest starts in the conference, but head to Fayetteville riding a 7-game winning streak – best active streak in the conference – looking like an NCAA Tournament team. Arkansas had climbed to No. 1 in the major polls, but that did not last with a series loss to Georgia. Divisions are no more, but there’s no love lost between these two clubs from the years of competing in the SEC West. A&M’s hot streak will be put to the test facing an Arkansas squad that has only lost once at home this season.
Auburn at Texas (Thursday-Saturday)
Auburn at a glance:
- Overall record: 27-10
- SEC record: 9-6
- Home record: 18-5
- Road record: 4-5
- Streak: W6
- Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. LSU
- RPI: 4
Texas at a glance:
- Overall record: 30-5
- SEC record: 13-2
- Home record: 17-3
- Road record: 8-1
- Streak: W2
- Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Kentucky
- RPI: 3
Off the bat watchability rating: Tape-measure power
Talk about two programs that have exceeded preseason expectations. Texas has shown it was not only SEC-ready, but the Longhorns have been SEC-dominant so far as the only conference team to win the first 5 series. Auburn heads to Austin with a 6-game winning streak, including a sweep of LSU. Playing on the road has been a bit difficult for the Tigers, and the Longhorns are strong at home.
Georgia at Vanderbilt (Thursday-Saturday)
Georgia at a glance:
- Overall record: 33-6
- SEC record: 10-5
- Home record: 24-2
- Road record: 6-4
- Streak: W3
- Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Arkansas
- RPI: 1
Vanderbilt at a glance:
- Overall record: 27-10
- SEC record: 8-7
- Home record: 19-3
- Road record: 7-5
- Streak: W2
- Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Oklahoma
- RPI: 7
Off the bat watchability rating: Over the wall
Georgia has moved up to No. 1 in RPI with a series win over Arkansas and a midweek victory over Georgia Tech at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves. UGA’s record, though, isn’t unblemished. Four of its 6 losses this season have come on the road. The Vandy Boys are looking to bounce back at home after a series loss to Oklahoma.
Ole Miss at South Carolina (Thursday-Saturday)
Ole Miss at a glance:
- Overall record: 27-10
- SEC record: 9-6
- Home record: 19-6
- Road record: 6-2
- Streak: L2
- Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Tennessee
- RPI: 16
South Carolina at a glance:
- Overall record: 21-17
- SEC record: 2-13
- Home record: 17-6
- Road record: 3-9
- Streak: W1
- Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Texas A&M
- RPI: 48
Off the bat watchability rating: Bloop single
Ole Miss is in a bit of a funk, dropping the Tennessee series and then a midweek contest to Little Rock, an ugly Quad 4 loss. The Rebels, though, are still on track to be an NCAA Regional host thanks to a strong overall record and strong first half in conference play. South Carolina, meanwhile, is having a miserable Year 1 under Paul Mainieri. Playing the Gamecocks should help the Rebels get back on track.
Oklahoma at Mizzou (Thursday-Saturday)
Oklahoma at a glance:
- Overall record: 26-10
- SEC record: 7-8
- Home record: 17-6
- Road record: 5-4
- Streak: W1
- Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Vanderbilt
- RPI: 22
Mizzou at a glance:
- Overall record: 13-23
- SEC record: 0-15
- Home record: 8-10
- Road record: 1-10
- Streak: W1
- Last SEC series: L, 0-3 vs. Florida
- RPI: 155
Off the bat watchability rating: Routine fly
Even though Oklahoma is below .500 in conference play, the Sooners are projected NCAA Regional hosts with a solid overall record. OU should get above .500 in SEC play with a trip to Mizzou. The Tigers did not win a conference game in the first 5 weekends of SEC play. For that reason, this series does not offer much for outsiders.
Florida at Mississippi State
Florida at a glance:
- Overall record: 25-14
- SEC record: 4-11
- Home record: 21-7
- Road record: 4-6
- Streak: W5
- Last SEC series: W, 3-0 vs. Mizzou
- RPI: 25
Mississippi State at a glance:
- Overall record: 23-14
- SEC record: 5-10
- Home record: 15-5
- Road record: 5-7
- Streak: W2
- Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Alabama
- RPI: 38
Off the bat watchability rating: Seeing-eye single
There’s some sneaky intrigue to this series. Neither team is having the season it hoped for, but this weekend’s series is extremely important for both squads. Both are well below .500 in SEC play and desperately need more conference wins for their NCAA Tournament resumes. Currently, MSU is a “First Four Out” team in Baseball America‘s latest field of 64 projections. UF, meanwhile, isn’t even on the bubble radar and needs another series win to cling to any outside hopes of making the tournament.
Kentucky at Tennessee
Kentucky at a glance:
- Overall record: 20-14
- SEC record: 6-9
- Home record: 12-9
- Road record: 8-5
- Streak: W1
- Last SEC series: L, 1-2 vs. Texas
- RPI: 39
Tennessee at a glance:
- Overall record: 32-5
- SEC record: 11-4
- Home record: 22-3
- Road record: 7-2
- Streak: W2
- Last SEC series: W, 2-1 vs. Ole Miss
- RPI: 5
Off the bat watchability rating: Heading for the gap
By the numbers, the Vols should pick up a series win without too much trouble. Tennessee will certainly want to avoid another home series loss after dropping 2-of-3 to Texas A&M in Knoxville earlier this month. Kentucky has the resume of a bubble team, but the Wildcats come to Rocky Top after a competitive 3-game series with Texas, so they shouldn’t be overlooked. UK needs to avoid the sweep to stay on track for postseason play.
