ACC basketball’s abysmal season summed up in one March Madness stat

ACC basketball fans have had to hear from fans all across the country that the conference hasn’t been any good this year. The other Power-4 conferences were viewed as much more successful this season. The SEC had 14 teams in the NCAA Tournament, while the Big Ten (8) and the Big 12 (7) both had many more teams than the 4 from the ACC.
Despite the struggles this year, North Carolina, Clemson, Louisville and Duke had a chance to prove all the haters wrong with a strong NCAA Tournament. That hasn’t been the case, as Duke is the only team from the conference that will make it to the Round of 32.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello, this will mark the first season since the NCAA allowed multiple teams from a conference to make the NCAA Tournament that the league will have just 1 of the final 32 teams standing. March Madness made the change 50 years ago.
There have been calls from some of the most influential names in college basketball that the ACC has to do something. During the conference tournament, Dick Vitale declared in the middle of a broadcast that the ACC has to change how they handled the NIL and transfer portal era.
Whatever happens, there is a ton of pressure on teams in the ACC to show this was an aberration and not the new norm for the league.
