Alabama and Auburn are bitter rivals in any sport there is possibly. Ask any fans if they have ever cheered or supported their rival, there’s a very good chance they will say ‘no’ emphatically.

Despite that animosity and lack of love for the other side, the result of this weekend for both teams should have fans in the entire state estatic and proud.

For only the 3rd time in history, and first time since going back-to-back in 1985 and 1986, both Alabama and Auburn have made it to the Sweet 16.

Auburn clinched a spot in the Sweet 16 on Saturday, as they knocked off the Creighton Blue Jays, 82-70. Tahaad Pettiford stepped in a big way, as the freshman poured in 23 points off the bench. Chad Baker-Mazara also had a big game with 17 points.

For the Crimson Tide, they bounced back from a sluggish performance against Robert Morris to take control against Saint Mary’s and get the 80-66 victory. Grant Nelson resembled the player that he was before the injury, which is great news for the Crimson Tide.

The 2 teams split in the regular season, and the only way they could play a 3rd time would be for a national championship.
