The wrongful death case filed against former Alabama basketball stars Brandon Miller and Darius Miles has been settled, according to court documents obtained by AL.com.
In a story by Matt Stahl and Nick Kelly, the documents indicate that the case, filed by the family of Jamea Jonae Harris, has reached a settlement. All parties have agreed to drop the case with a trust fund established to support the benefit of the late Harris’s children.
U.S. District Judge Anna M. Manasco approved the settlement and ordered a dismissal of the case on Monday.
News of the wrongful death case was originally reported back in October 2023. It stems from a January 2023 shooting that claimed the life of Harris.
Miles is still awaiting trial on charges of capital murder while a 3rd individual, Michael Davis, recently received a date for his trial, per Tuscaloosa News. Davis is also charged with capital murder, and investigators allege it was Davis who pulled the trigger in the fateful shooting with a handgun that was allegedly given to him by Miles.
Miller was never charged in the matter, but he has been under scrutiny after police alleged he drove to the area and delivered the gun to Miles on the night of the shooting. The former Alabama star is in his 2nd season with the Charlotte Hornets but is out for the season after a wrist injury in January.
