Alex Condon suffered an ankle injury during the first half of Thursday night’s Sweet 16 showdown against Maryland and was forced to leave the game.
According to a school spokesman, Condon was being evaluated after the ankle injury and no timetable was given for a possible return in the second half.
Top-seeded Florida still led 4-seed Maryland, 40-38, at halftime despite the injury to the Gators’ star sophomore forward, who was limited to 4 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist amid the injury.
Condon is a vital cog in Todd Golden’s basketball machine. He averages 11.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this season. He’s also efficient, shooting 50% from the field so far this season.
Condon has become a budding star in his sophomore year, with the 6-foot-11, 230-pounder from Perth, Wash., averaging 25.1 minutes per game. Condon’s presence down low this season helped the Gators finish 2nd in the regular season in a rugged SEC. Condon also helped propel UF to the SEC Tournament title a few weeks ago in Nashville.
Now, at the most crucial time imaginable in UF’s season, it’s uncertain if Golden will have Condon’s services for the second half of a tight Sweet 16 game.
