Arkansas is losing one of its young guards to the transfer portal, as freshman Casmir Chavis is heading elsewhere next season, he told On3 on Sunday.

The 6-foot guard from Minneapolis appeared in just 1 game this season, so he wasn’t a vital piece during the Razorbacks’ remarkable run to the Sweet 16. But John Calipari’s team will be losing one of its possible depth pieces for the future with the former top-150 recruit and one-time Washington signee heading to the portal.

That 1 game that Chavis appeared in for Arkansas this season came all the way back on Nov. 25 against Maryland-Eastern Shore. He played just 5 minutes at the back end of a 109-35 Razorbacks win and scored 2 points on 1-of-3 shooting. He added 1 rebound in that game as well.

A former 3-star guard, according to Rivals, Chavis chose the Razorbacks after he was released from his letter of intent to Washington. He also held offers from Arizona State and Georgia, among others.

Chavis is the first Razorback player to enter the transfer portal since Arkansas’ season ended on Thursday night with a heartbreaking overtime loss to Texas Tech in the Sweet 16.

Arkansas’s shocking run to the Sweet 16 set the tone for even better things next season, but Chavis won’t be part of that apparently after deciding to head elsewhere.
