Bucky McMillan is the new head coach at Texas A&M, as Buzz Williams made the decision to go to Maryland.
The Aggies wasted no time in brining McMillan in, signing the former Samford coach very quickly. He has been 1 of the interesting names in the coaching carousel over the past couple seasons, and it was only a matter of time before he took a leap to the Power-5 level.
During an interview on what he is going to bring to College Station, he compared it to another Aggie, Texas A&M football legend Johnny Manziel.
“I was in Bryant-Denny Stadium when a guy you may know by the name of Johnny Manziel rolled into town,” McMillan said. “They were fearless. That’s how we’re going to play basketball. That’s how we play basketball.”
In his first season as the Bulldogs coach, his team went 6-13 during the COVID season. However, the next 4 years, his team won at least 21 games. During the 2023-24 season, McMillan led the team to a 29-6 record, making it to the NCAA Tournament and nearly upsetting the Kansas Jayhawks.
This past season saw the Bulldogs go 21-11, making it to the NIT.
For McMillan, right now, it is all about getting a team that can come out and compete. The Aggies lost a talented players this past season, and McMillan has already come out and said it’s going to be a challenge to get a great roster.
However, if McMillan is able to bring the excitement to College Station like Johnny Manziel did, then Aggies fans are in store for a great season.
