Chad Baker-Mazara signed contract with Auburn before entering portal, per report
Chad Baker-Mazara surprised the college basketball world by announcing plans to enter the transfer portal on Thursday.
Baker-Mazara has been a critical part of Auburn’s success over the past couple of seasons and has one year of eligibility remaining. But rather than play out the remainder of his college career with Auburn, it appears he will be headed elsewhere.
However, that may not be the end of the story. According to college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, Baker-Mazara had already signed a contract with Auburn for the 2025-26 season that has “protection for the school.”
If Baker-Mazara did sign any sort of binding deal with Auburn, it will be interesting to see how this plays out as he seeks a new home for the 2025-26 season. At this point, any specifics regarding “protections” for Auburn are unclear.
Baker-Mazara started 34 games for Auburn this season as the Tigers secured the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and made it all the way to the Final Four. He averaged 12.3 points, 3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game over the course of the season.
The veteran guard began his college career at Duquesne way back in 2020-21 and then took a redshirt year in 2022-23, which is why he still has 1 more year of college eligibility. Baker-Mazara will be 26 years old during March Madness next season, making him one of the oldest college basketball players in the country.
