Chad Baker-Mazara to return? Auburn star teases status for 2025-26 season
Chad Baker-Mazara and his Auburn teammates suffered a crushing Final Four loss to Florida on Saturday night, ending the Tigers’ brilliant season.
But what about Baker-Mazara’s brilliant college career? The 6-foot-7 guard from the Dominican Republic is a senior, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s done on the Plains and for his whirlwind of a collegiate career. Because Baker-Mazara has an extra year of eligibility that was granted by the NCAA’s blanket waiver for senior athletes who spent a season in junior college.
So, after spending the past 2 seasons at Auburn after previous stops at Duquesne, San Diego State and Northwest Florida State, the question now is whether Baker-Mazara is done at Auburn or whether there is another season in the fold on the Plains. On Monday, Baker-Mazara shed a little light on the sensitive subject — or did he?
On his social media, Baker-Mazara tweeted a collage of himself at Auburn, but the headline on the post was the telling part of it all — it read “2025/26 War Eagle?” and Baker-Mazara put the googly-eye emoji after that to emphasize that, well, this might be something to look at that we didn’t see coming.
A short time before that post, Baker-Mazara posted a message to his Auburn fans about how much he loved them and how much the school has made him a better person and player. He voiced his disappointment at not bringing a national title back to the Plains while praising the fan base.
Here is his message:
Time will tell, of course, if Baker-Mazara is indeed coming back to Auburn and if that Final Four loss wasn’t the last college basketball game he ever played.
