Charles Barkley has never won a championship, in college at Auburn or during a stellar NBA career.

For many basketball fanatics and even some casual ones, this fact is common knowledge. Barkley did just about everything a player could do during a Hall of Fame career. He’s a basketball legend on the Plains, where he has his number retired, and he also had his number retired by the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns.

He’s a former NBA MVP, an 11-time NBA All-Star and was a member of the original, iconic Dream Team at the 1992 Olympics.

The 62-year-old is also well-known for younger basketball fans for his broadcasting wit, as an entire generation of fans have grown up watching Barkley break down NBA and in recent years college basketball games.

But … Barkley has never won a championship, during those incredible years at Auburn or during that incredible career in the NBA. And longtime studio co-host Ernie Johnson wasn’t going to let Barkley forget that, even if it was all in good fun during CBS Sports’s Elite Eight coverage on Sunday.

After co-hosts Kenny Smith, who won 2 NBA titles with the Houston Rockets, and Jay Wright, who coached Villanova to 2 national titles, described what winning a championship felt like, Johnson sarcastically turned to Barkley and asked him for a similar story, knowing Barkley had none.

“You have a similar story, Charles? No, you don’t,” shouted Johnson, as the guys in the studio erupted in laughter at Barkley’s expense.

Again, it was all in good fun, but once again Barkley had to be reminded on national TV that his college/NBA championship trophy case is empty, despite all his incredible individual accomplishments.
