Chaz Lanier secured his spot in the Tennessee basketball history books by becoming the new leader of 3-pointers in a season at UT.

Lanier made 4 3-pointers for Tennessee in the second-round win over UCLA, sending the Volunteers to the Sweet 16. Lanier now has 120 on the season, putting him over Vol great Chris Lofton’s total of 118 in 2007-08.

“It’s a blessing to be in my position,” Lanier said after the game. “I want to give all the glory to God because without Him I wouldn’t be here.”

Lofton was on hand to watch Lanier break the record in Lexington.

“I haven’t got to talk to C.Lo, yet, but hopefully I get to see him today,” Lanier said. “It’s just a blessing. I want to shout out my teammates as well. They’re always setting good screens and passing the ball on the money for me. So without them, I wouldn’t be making the shots.”

Lanier and the Vols will learn their Sweet 16 opponent on Sunday. Rick Barnes’ team will play either Illinois or Kentucky in Indianapolis.
