Chris Beard dismisses Ole Miss ‘fraud’ accusations ahead of NCAA Tournament
Chris Beard met with reporters in Oxford on Monday afternoon in advance of Ole Miss’s 1st-round NCAA Tournament game this week.
Beard was asked about comments made by CBS Sports analyst Tim Doyle. If you missed it, here’s what Doyle said on CBS on Sunday night after the bracket was revealed:
“I think Ole Miss is a fraud,” Doyle said on Sunday. “We were debating if San Diego State or North Carolina were gonna get in. They both get in. Whoever wins that game is beating Ole Miss. Ole Miss gets a lot of love because they play in a great conference. They had a lot of opportunities and stuff. Eyeball test with Ole Miss – that is a fraud at No. 6.”
Beard took exception to Doyle’s comments:
“I think we’ve got a good team. We just played in what people are calling the best conference in the history of college basketball,” Beard said before going through some of the high points of Ole Miss’s résumé.
Beard pointed out the Rebels didn’t lose to a team outside the Field of 68 this year and also earned impressive wins away from home over programs like BYU, Louisville and Alabama.
“I think a lot of things can be said about our team, both good and bad,” Beard said. “But ‘fraud’ would not be a word that I would think about when I think about this year’s Ole Miss team.”
Here’s the clip from Beard’s press conference:
Ole Miss will face either North Carolina or San Diego State in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.
