College basketball coach puts out video statement responding to fake rumors
College basketball rumors are always rampant this time of year, especially for the programs that aren’t fortunate enough to still be playing in the NCAA Tournament.
There’s been a ton of speculation, and a lot of fake rumors, and on Thursday, it was Tulane men’s basketball coach Ron Hunter’s turn to refute a fake report about his status. Hunter was reported by a fake Jon Rothstein account that was spelled incorrectly, as in “Jon Rothstien,” that he was leaving the Green Wave to take the North Texas job. The Mean Green just lost their coach, Ross Hodge, to West Virginia, so the head coaching cycle that’s already a whirlwind has unfortunately been hacked by some fake rumors from fake accounts.

Just to set the record straight, Tulane released a video on Thursday that featured Hunter refuting the rumors about his departure, saying, “Don’t read all the bad stuff that’s out there.”
Hunter, with the program since 2019, has yet to lead the Green Wave to an NCAA Tournament berth in his 6 seasons. He is 89-88 overall there. But he did lead the Green Wave to a solid 19-14 record this season, and the year isn’t yet finished. Hunter and the Green Wave were picked to play in the inaugural College Basketball Crown tournament next week in Las Vegas, where they will face USC in the opening round on Tuesday night.
