College GameDay reveals destination for final weekend of college basketball regular season
College GameDay is going back to the state of North Carolina for the final weekend of the 2024-25 college basketball regular season.
ESPN’s traveling pregame show revealed on Saturday that it’ll feature next Saturday’s Duke-North Carolina game. GameDay also featured the first meeting of the season between the 2 rivals with a record 14th all-time trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Feb. 1.
The rematch between Duke and North Carolina was selected over several ranked-on-ranked matchups next weekend, including Marquette vs. St. John’s, Mizzou vs. Kentucky, and Alabama vs. Auburn.
Duke (30) and North Carolina (28) have made the most GameDay appearances of any program in the country, counting the upcoming March 8 show.
This will be GameDay’s first visit to Chapel Hill since Feb. 3, 2024, when the Tar Heels hosted Duke.
Carolina lost the first meeting between these 2 teams earlier this season, 87-70. That game was largely non-competitive, as Duke led 47-25 at the halftime break and stretched the lead to as many as 32 points in the second half.
But the rematch could very well be a play-in game for North Carolina (18-11, 11-6 ACC), which is looking to avoid what would be a second NCAA Tournament absence in 4 years under coach Hubert Davis. The Tar Heels have won 4 straight to put themselves squarely on the bubble.
Ahead of their game against Miami, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi had North Carolina in the “first 4 out” section of his latest bracket projection. The Tar Heels are +150 to make the NCAA Tournament (-190 to miss it) at ESPN Bet.
Saturday’s game against Miami tips at noon ET on ESPN. Carolina will play at Virginia Tech on Tuesday before returning home to host No. 2 Duke next Saturday. Tipoff in that game is set for 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
