College GameDay announced on Saturday it will be “taking over” Nashville next week for the SEC Tournament.
Following one of the best regular seasons by a conference in modern college basketball history, all eyes will be on the SEC’s annual conference tourney next week. Some have suggested the league tourney will be more difficult for NCAA-bound teams than March Madness. ESPN’s traveling pregame will be on hand for the semifinal round next Saturday.
The SEC Tournament begins next Wednesday, March 12, with 8 of the 16 conference programs hitting the court on Day 1. Teams seeded 5 through 8 will debut on Thursday in the second round. The quarterfinals begin next Friday with the 2 semifinal games set for Saturday, March 15, on ESPN.
The SEC Championship will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Entering the final weekend of the regular season, Auburn, Florida, and Alabama had top-4 seeds and double-byes locked up. The final double-bye and a number of other spots were still very much up for grabs.
Auburn is expected to be the tournament favorite when the betting markets open. The Tigers are co-favorites (+350 via bet365) alongside Duke to win the national championship. The Tigers defeated Florida 86-67 in the tournament title game last season.
