Cooper Flagg is indeed looking to hit the court to start the NCAA Tournament when Duke faces Mount St. Marys on Friday. According to Duke’s freshman phenom, the consensus first-team All-American expects to be close to 100% by then.
On Thursday, the Blue Devils confirmed that Flagg would be available after missing the majority of the ACC Tournament run. That was always the expectation for head coach Jon Scheyer, and it is now confirmed.
Flagg was asked about his status at Thursday’s press conference, and he said he was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice session. In fact, he expects to be at or near 100% for Friday’s game.
Flagg rolled his ankle in the ACC Tournament vs. Georgia Tech but did not return to the court. He appeared to be moving well inside the arena and never showed a visible limp per those in attendance, but the Blue Devils opted to rest their superstar in anticipation of a deep run.
The status of Flagg will be a key factor in many of the March Madness odds, and Duke has been a popular pick to advance to the Final Four. In fact, Duke is tied with Florida at BetMGM with +325 odds to win the national title which are the best odds in the entire country.
We’ll see if Flagg can make good on those odds before he heads to the NBA Draft, but it’s a promising sign that he expects to be ready to roll on Friday.
