Dusty May isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

The former Florida assistant and current head men’s basketball coach at Florida Atlantic has reached an agreement with the Owls to remain at the school on a new 10-year contract extension. It’s a huge commitment from FAU, but it comes on the heels of an incredible run to this year’s NCAA Tournament National Semifinal as a 9-seed.

In May’s 5th year with the program, the Owls had their best season in program history. They ran to the Final Four while posting a program-best 35-4 record. Prior to the year, FAU had one previous appearance in the NCAA Tournament — a one-and-done showing during the 2001-02 season.

“What Dusty has accomplished in his first 5 years at Florida Atlantic is, in my opinion, one of the most remarkable coaching feats in the history of college basketball,” FAU athletic director Brian White said in a release. “In addition to his tremendous coaching ability, he has proven to be an excellent program builder, a phenomenal leader of men, and a great recruiter of talented, high-character individuals.”

Before this year, FAU had just a single 20-win season on the books in program history. May has a winning record in each of his 5 years as the FAU head coach, holding a career 101-60 record. May spent the 7 seasons prior to FAU on Mike White’s coaching staff, first at Louisiana Tech for 4 years and then at Florida for 3.

May will undoubtedly be a popular name when high-profile jobs come open going forward, but he told reporters during the NCAA Tournament run that he wanted to remain at FAU and now he has backed that up.
