ESPN’s Joe Lunardi says the dream is alive for the SEC to receive 14 bids in the NCAA Tournament.

Lunardi appeared at halftime of the Mississippi StateLSU SEC Tournament game airing on the SEC Network. The bracketology expert shared updates on Arkansas and Texas after the Razorbacks and Longhorns picked up wins Wednesday in opening-round action of the conference tournament.

“It wasn’t pretty, but Arkansas got the job done, avoiding a bad loss, defeating South Carolina and advancing in the SEC Tournament,” Lunardi said. “That should be enough to lock the Razorbacks into the Big Dance. John Calipari is going to hear his and their name called on Selection Sunday night.

“Even bigger news, Texas keeps its NCAA hopes alive by beating Vanderbilt, another tournament lock in our view. The Longhorns will wake up on Thursday no worse than the second team out of the field, and maybe the first, depending on other results late Wednesday.

“So, the dream of a 14-bid SEC, still very much alive.”

An on-screen graphic noted Arkansas is in the Last Four Byes group. Texas, meanwhile, is one of the First Four Out.

Arkansas will open Thursday’s action, facing No. 8-seed Ole Miss in Game 5 of the tournament. Texas is set to face 5-seed Texas A&M in Game 6.
