Florida trailed UConn for much of their game in the Round of 32, but the Gators used a 28-14 run in the second half to overcome a 6-point second half deficit to pull out the 77-75 victory.
Leading the way for the Gators was Walter Clayton Jr., who scored 23 points, while hitting clutch shots late to give the Gators the lead. Guard Alijah Martin scored 14 points in the first half to keep Florida in it, and made some big hustle plays late to give the teams extra possession.
As you can imagine, earning a trip to the Sweet 16 by knocking off the 2-time defending national champions is a cause for celebration. Coach Todd Golden made sure his team did just that in the locker room.
Here’s a clip from the celebration:
The majority of teams that win a national title have that one game that they had to grind and win a slugfest type of game. This has the feeling of that type of game, and definitely played a part in the Gators having so much fun in the locker room after the game.
The Gators will be back to preparing on Monday, as they get ready for their Sweet 16 game. They will take on the winner of Maryland and Colorado State.
