Florida is headed to the Final Four, though that accomplishment hung in the balance until the final moments of the Elite Eight win over Texas Tech.
Fortunately for the Gators, Walter Clayton Jr. and Thomas Haugh delivered one of the truly clutch runs in all of March Madness. Behind that duo, Florida ended the game on an 18-4 run, erasing what had at one point been a 10-point deficit.
Somehow, Florida was able to overcome a -15 mark in 2nd-chance points and a -17 mark in points off turnovers. A big key to that was a 25-for-27 mark at the free-throw line by Todd Golden’s squad, some timely shot making by Clayton, and 5 blocks on the interior for Florida.
To this point, Florida’s wild comeback is one of the best moments in the entire tournament, even for a team that was favored heading into the game. A favorite of many to win it all this postseason, the Gators were seemingly down and out before the electric run to completely flip the script and advance.
Florida is now safely through to its first Final Four since 2014, and social media is still buzzing about the wild nature of the game. It’s an instant classic in March that will be revisited for a long time coming.
Here’s how social media reacted to the wild finish:
