Florida State’s search to replace Leonard Hamilton remains ongoing, but a few candidates have emerged as top contenders.

According to college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, the list of candidates includes Celtics assistant coach Sam Cassell, Kings assistant coach Luke Loucks, UAB coach Andy Kennedy, Arkansas State coach Bryan Hodgson, Samford coach Bucky McMillan and Duke assistant coach Chris Carrawell.

Cassell and Loucks are both FSU alums. Cassell, of course, has extensive NBA experience. He enjoyed a 15-year NBA career before moving on to the coaching profession. He’s been an assistant coach in the NBA since 2008.

Kennedy and Hodgson both have SEC ties. Kennedy was the Ole Miss head coach from 2006-2018 and took the Rebels to the NCAA Tournament on a couple of occasions. Hodgson is in his 2nd season as Arkansas State’s head coach, but he was previously an assistant at Alabama under Nate Oats from 2019-23.

Florida State is conducting its first men’s basketball coaching search in more than 2 decades. Hamilton has served as FSU’s head coach since 2002-03 and has 459 wins all-time with the Noles.
